The ace hurler for Connie Mack's first Athletics dynasty, Hall of Famer Chief Bender is depicted in these (3) original news service photographs during his post-career days as a mentor. Ranging in size from 6-5/8 x 8-1/2 to 10-1/4 x 8-1/16, the black-and-white first-generation photos show (EX to EX/MT) quality with crisp imagery on the front and vintage stampings and/or captions on the reverse. For a more detailed description of the photos, please visit our website.

Includes: 1944 Spring Training Photo an 8-1/8 x 10 black-and-white depiction of Bender gripping a baseball. On the reverse, paper remnants indicate that a caption was once adhered and Bender's name is written in grease pencil. An “EVENING BULLITEN MAR 15, 1944 stamping indicates that the image was captured at the Athletics spring training facility in Frederick, Maryland. The item presents as (EX) with faded stampings on the front and a series of flaws (not to the surface, but from the negative) on the lower portion of the image.
1944 Coach's Photo a 6-5/8 x 8-1/2 black-and-white photo of Bender giving infield practice in a near-vacant stadium. The (EX/MT) item is free of tears, folds or creases and has an “INTERNATIONAL NEWS PHOTO” stamping on the reverse, as well as an original caption that dates to August 30, 1944.
1945 Photo a 10-1/4 x 8-1/16 black-and-white likeness of Bender shaking hands with A's pitcher Dick Fowler as Connie Mack looks on. On the reverse, an “ASSOCIATED PRESS PHOTO” stamping is accompanied by a “SEP 14 1945” stamping (Canadian-born Fowler had logged his only triumph of the season just five days prior). This (EX to EX/MT) item is affected minimally with small creases and an insignificant fold at the lower left border.
