Along with the Glendale series, the Hunter Wieners set of 1953 rang in the era of the 1950s “meat issues.” These regional scarcities are noted not only for their tremendous eye appeal, but also for being extremely condition-sensitive. Revered by Cardinals and type collectors alike, the offered 1953 Hunters Wieners panel depicts Harvey Haddix and Michael Clark. Measuring approximately 5x5, this advertising panel beckons to children ”Kids! Cut Out and Save The Cards!” Unlike so many other hotdog boxes of the age, this precisely cut panel survived its initial encounter. The Haddix panel grades in (NM) condition, while the Clark grades (VG) with some light creasing in the upper right corner. Both cards are stunningly vibrant. Interestingly, both the front and reverse are absent the protective wax coating which are associated with meat issues. Due to the lack of such wax coating, there is not a trace of any grease markings. With only touched corners, the blazing red edges perfectly frame these St. Louis hurlers. The combination of condition, clarity and rarity make this artifact an instant collection cornerstone.
